The Journey Behind the Lens
In a world before smartphones and social media, my cinematic journey began. It was 1993 – the year Jurassic Park roared into theaters and a dinosaur-themed educational park came to Cyprus. I was just 12 years old, spending my days outdoors with little connection to cinema. My relationship with cameras began reluctantly when my father purchased a handycam and tasked me with documenting our family vacations – a chore I initially resisted. Everything changed when I discovered the Rocky films. Suddenly inspired, I began creating my own adventures, writing stories and filming them with self-taught techniques.
Finding My Path
Those early years were magical. My first cinema experience in 1995 captivated me. As time raced forward, my passion for filmmaking – fueled by Stallone's films, movie scores on my first Walkman, and inspirational classics like Back to the Future – continued to grow. In 2005, I decided to challenge myself. I wrote a new screenplay, convinced friends to act in it, and promised them a quick shoot with the ambitious goal of renting a cinema for its premiere. What was planned as a 1-2 month project evolved into 15 months of filming and hundreds of hours teaching myself computer editing. The result was "Oscar the Movie" – named after a character from my earlier stories and comics (inspired by a Stallone film, not the awards).
An Unexpected Turn
At that time, I was working in construction with my father, believing it would be my lifelong career. As a struggling student with little direction, my future seemed like a blank page. The night of my film's premiere changed everything. A gentleman approached me, asking if I would film his wedding. I dismissed it as a joke until he returned months later, just a week before his wedding, to confirm the booking. Stressed but committed, I filmed my first wedding with no prior experience – and to my surprise, it was a tremendous success.
Building a Legacy
New requests began pouring in, and I suddenly found myself transitioning from construction to establishing my own videography business. The journey was challenging, but I set progressive goals: first filming weddings beyond my village, then throughout Cyprus. The true breakthrough came in 2011 when I pioneered the "same-day edit" concept for weddings. This innovation catapulted my success to new heights, bringing international attention and opportunities. By 2015, I was filming destination weddings across Europe – Athens, Italy, Germany – and even in Canada. In 2017, I made the decision to expand into a team, giving life to a Stallone quote in my workfield:
"When you find the right components in your life, the right people that gel with you, then you feel as though you're invincible. It may be a fallacy, but you at least feel as though you can take all that life has to dish out."
This marked another milestone as I brought together talented individuals, many whom I'd known for years, creating a united creative force capable of achieving ever more ambitious goals. What began as a childhood passion has evolved into an international creative studio, driven by storytelling, innovation, and the cinematic approach that has defined my journey from the very beginning. Where there is a will, there is a way, and if you can dream it, you can live it.
No one can hold the true dreamer from taking the challenge and transforming it into reality.
